What a mini-split is
A ductless mini-split is a small, high-efficiency heat pump with an outdoor unit and one or more wall, ceiling, or concealed indoor heads, no ductwork required. Each head is independently controlled, so you condition only the space you're using.
When it's the right call
Additions, finished garages, casitas, converted attics, and mother-in-law suites. Anywhere the main system wasn't sized to reach. Extending the main ducts into a new addition typically robs the rest of the house; a mini-split sidesteps that entirely.
Where bad installs show up fast
Mini-splits punish shortcuts harder than anything in HVAC: kinked or undersized line-sets, gauge-charged refrigerant, and skipped vacuums show up within months. We braze the joints, vacuum to spec, weigh in the charge, and run the line-set cleanly with covers.
The proof: efficiency and control
Done right, a mini-split is quiet, very efficient (inverter compressors modulate instead of slamming on and off), and gives the new space its own thermostat. It also keeps the rest of the home's comfort intact.
